Ann Quinlan (née Smith), a lifelong Staten Islander and beacon of grace, faith, and strength, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2025. Born on January 14, 1935, to Albert and Loretta (née Kelly) Smith, Ann was the heart of a large and loving family, a devout Catholic, and a pillar of her community.
Ann was predeceased by her beloved husband, Thomas J. Quinlan, Jr., who passed away in April of 1992. Together, they built a home filled with warmth, love, and laughter. She is survived by her devoted children, Thomas J. Quinlan, III and his wife Nicole Mauro, and her daughter Margaret and her husband Tom Silva. Ann was the proud and adoring grandmother of Tommy, Colleen, Timmy, and Terrence Quinlan, and Julia, Isabel, and Daniel Silva. Her love for them was boundless and ever-present.
She is also survived by her cherished siblings Deborah, Frank, and Dennis Smith. Ann now joins in eternal rest her siblings Walter, Albert, Herbert, Maryann, and William Smith, Loretta Burke, and Jessie Larson.
Ann lived her life in steadfast devotion to her faith. A Eucharistic Minister at St. Paul Church in New Brighton, she faithfully brought communion to the homebound and was deeply involved in church life—singing in the choir, serving in the Rosary and Altar Society, and offering spiritual companionship to many. Her faith was the cornerstone of her strength, guiding her through life with hope and resilience.
A dedicated volunteer at Snug Harbor Cultural Center, Ann was honored as Volunteer of the Year in 2005. Her giving spirit extended into every corner of her life. Whether crocheting intricate blankets for loved ones, tending to her lush garden, or offering her green thumb at Harbor House Assisted Living, Ann gave generously of her time and talents. Her passion for gardening was matched only by her joy in sharing it, always eager to lend advice or a helping hand.
Ann found great joy in travel, especially with her sisters and extended family, making memories that would last a lifetime. She also brought her zest for life to the Staten Island Senior Olympics, where she participated enthusiastically for many years.
Those who knew “Annie” will remember her radiant joy, endless kindness, and the quiet strength she carried through life. She was a woman who never gave up, who saw the silver linings in every cloud, and who left everyone she met with a little more hope and a little more love.
The Quinlan Family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of Harbor House Assisted Living and Eger Nursing Home for their compassion, professionalism, and the deep care they showed Ann. Your kindness will not be forgotten.
Ann Quinlan’s legacy of love, service, and strength will live on in all who were blessed to know her. She will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
