One of nine children, Ms. Fontana graduated from McKee High School.
She worked for more than 20 years in Tanya Sportswear, a dress factory in Rosebank. She later worked as a housekeeper at the former Bayley Seton Hospital in Clifton. She retired at the age of 62.
In her leisure time, Ms. Fontana enjoyed sewing and visiting Atlantic City.
A nephew, Steven Fontano, recalled, "She was wonderful aunt to her many nieces and nephews."
The funeral will be Friday from the Virginia Funeral Chapel, Dongan Hills, with a mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Joseph's R.C. Church, Rosebank. Burial will follow in Moravian Cemetery, New Dorp.
