

Native Staten Islander Anna Leandro, 71, of Union Beach, N.J., a retired supermarket employee who was a very active Local 342 member, died Saturday in CentraState Medical Center, Freehold, N.J., after a battle with lung cancer.
Born and raised Anna Yoffredo in Port Richmond, she graduated from Port Richmond High School. She later moved to Huguenot and lived there until 10 years ago, when she relocated to New Jersey to be closer to family.
Mrs. Leandro began her working life as a cashier for A&P, then moved to the appetizing and seafood department before going on to work for ShopRite, retiring from that company in 2013. She became a member of Local 342, Amalgamated Meat Cutters Union, and was active in the union, becoming a shop steward and an executive board member.
She was devoted to her family. She loved going to her grandchildren's functions and was especially fond of entertaining family over the holidays. She also enjoyed watching movies.
While living on the Island, she was a parishioner of Our Lady Star of the Sea R.C. Church, Huguenot, and also attended SonRise Faith Church, Bulls Head.
Her daughter, Frances Mulligan, died in March.
Surviving Mrs. Leandro are her sons, Peter, Anthony and Frank; her daughter, Anna Ferranto; two brothers, Joseph and Ralph Yoffredo; three sisters, Emilia Schwartz, Mary Bianco and Frances Jones, and 12 grandchildren.
The funeral will be Tuesday from the Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners, with a mass at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady Star of the Sea Church. Arrangements include cremation.
