Anthony, who was affectionately known by some as Eric, Merryman, and Hollywood (“Aliwood”), was the oldest child of the late James Fitzgerald Palmer and Doris Claudell Bennett. He attended Gimme-me-bit Primary School, the only school in Clarendon at that time.
At the age of 32, Anthony migrated to the United States by way of a contract with the Minister of Agriculture. His intent over the next decade was to establish himself so that he could eventually provide an opportunity for his children to also join him in the United States. He worked as an excellent stone mason, and his hands had the scars to prove it.
Anthony was a man of many passions—his first was to be a singer, which led to one of his nicknames, “Merryman”. In addition to singing, he had a love for fashion, which led to another of his nicknames, “Hollywood”; when it was time to go out, he loved being sharply dressed. His most notable passion was his love for cooking and eating great Jamaican cuisine; at one time, he even had a restaurant called Rendezvous on Staten Island. Each of those passions can be seen among his children.
Anthony gave his heart to The Lord Jesus Christ on January 1, 2021; after fighting an illness as much as he could, he passed away on July, 18, 2021.
Anthony had a twin brother, known as “Son”, who passed away at a young age; his only sister, Mildred Palmer, also preceded Anthony in death in 2015. He is survived by his brothers Nevely Plummer, Larrex Card, and Everoy Morrison. He is also survived by his eight children, Prince Palmer, Rome Palmer, Nadine Hillain, Charline Palmer-Thompson, Rasheda Jonas, Jermaine Palmer, Sharon Palmer, and Shomari Palmer; twelve grandchildren, one great-grandchild, along with daughters and sons in-law, a host of family, and dear friends.
Anthony, Eric, Merryman, Hollywood, dad, granddad, friend...you are loved and will be greatly missed! Rest in the arms of your savior, Jesus Christ!
