Born and raised in Great Kills, she graduated from Tottenville High School. She settled in New Dorp 25 years ago.
Ms. McCarthy worked in the mortgage department of the former Staten Island Savings Bank in Stapleton for 20 years. She then worked as a customer service representative for E-ZPass.
In her leisure time, she loved cheering on her favorite sports teams, the New York Yankees, Boston Celtics and Dallas Cowboys. She also enjoyed needlepoint embroidery.
"She did not have children, but she was very fond of her many nieces and nephews," said her sister, Eileen Carpiniello.
Along with her sister, Eileen, Ms. McCarthy is survived by her brothers, Charles, Raymond and Michael, and her sisters, Rosemary Tumminello and Elizabeth Schaaf.
There will be a memorial mass Saturday at 9:45 a.m. in St. Clare's R.C. Church, Great Kills. Arrangements, including cremation, are being handled by the Casey-McCallum-Rice South Shore Funeral Home, also Great Kills.
