Catherine Mary Rose "Dusty" Gysel, 91, of Hampton, New York, passed away from aspirational pneumonia on April 19, 2024, in the home her father built in Staten Island, NY., where her son Charles lives now, surrounded by him and his brother Walter. She was born on June 16, 1932, in Staten Island, New York.
She graduated from St. Patrick's elementary and high school and attended Wagner college
She worked at Evans Air Products and Nassau Smelting before transitioning to sales at Participation boutique in Staten Island. Later, she made her mark at B. Altman in White Plains and also dedicated her time to Maryknoll Sisters in Ossining, NY. Catherine's passion for history led her to Sleepy Hollow Restorations, also known as Historic Hudson Valley, where she excelled as the head of sales and later as a tour guide at Van Cortlandt Manor.
She volunteered as a tour guide at Skeene Manor in Whitehall, NY, and the Poultney, VT thrift shop. She also served as the PTA Secretary at Public School 39 in Staten Island, NY, and as Room Mother at Trinity Lutheran School in Staten Island, NY. Catherine was an active member of the Bridge club in Ossining, NY. In Hampton, she won awards at the local Garden and Farm association for her Ikebana, using the same flower pots her mother-in-law had used in Japan when she lived there in the 1920's.
Catherine was a person of impeccable taste, quick wit, and compassion for people of all races and religions. She had a green thumb and a beauty that turned heads wherever she went.. Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Gysel,in 2014. He was the love of her life the minute they met at a singles resort in Culvermere, NJ. They married in Zurich, Switzerland , where Walter was originally from, on May 24, 1956. They resided on Grymes Hill and Grasmere on Staten Island, Ossining, New York and finally in their vacation home in Hampton, New York. She also maintained vacation homes in Severance, New York and Montreal, Canada. She was also predeceased by her brother Edward Langford, her father Edward Langford, and her mother Rose Langford (Walsh).

According to her wishes, there will be no wake. However, celebrations of her life are being planned for Staten Island, Hampton, Severance, Ny, Zurich and Geneva, Switzerland, Montreal, Quebec, Canada and Puebla and Cuernevaca in Mexico
