She was born and raised in Rosebank to the late Vincenzo and Angelina Mangiero. She was the last of 12 siblings. She met her husband, of 44 years, Joseph Gilroy Sr. at the Dave Goren's candy shop. She attended P.S. 13 and St. John Villa Academy, and was a parishioner of St.Ann's Church.
She was the manager/ treasurer of what was formerly known as the United States Public Health Hospital Federal Credit Union. Concetta was the driving force of the conversion to what is now known as the Medical Employees Federal Credit Union at Bayley Seton Hospital, where she retired from in 2010, but remained a steadfast volunteer until recently.
Concetta was very friendly and kind. She was a strong and passionate woman who always enjoyed a good party. She was big on family traditions such as breakfast after Christmas Eve mass and teaching the Gilroy girls how to make homemade ravioli for Easter. She was always giving and helping others who needed it. And always seemed to have the right answer for any question. Anything to do with finance she was your girl. She was a firm believer in woman's independence, that every woman should have their own bank account and go on payroll deduction. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting and loved to teach the crafts as well. She was smart and funny and she will be missed.
She is survived by her daughter, Judy Gilroy Valitutto and her husband, John and her son, Joseph Gilroy Jr; her grandson, Michael Byrne, wife, Dana and granddaughter, Jennalyn Valitutto, as well as her great-grandchildren, Brandon and Sophia Byrne.
