July 21, 1934 – June 2, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that I announce the passing of my beloved mother, Edna Laing, who left this world peacefully on June 3, 2025 at the age of 90. A woman of incredible strength, resilience, and grace, Edna touched the lives of all who knew her and leaves behind a legacy of love, courage, and unwavering independence.
Born on July 21, 1934 in Brooklyn, New York. Edna built a life grounded in perseverance and compassion. She raised her family with fierce dedication, balancing countless responsibilities with a quiet strength and an unshakable spirit. Her wisdom guided us, her laughter lifted us, and her love was the foundation on which we stood. As an elementary school teacher, Edna reached many students in her thirty four years.
Throughout her life, Edna faced challenges with dignity and determination. Even as memory loss and health concerns changed her later years, she remained a source of light and warmth. Though these years brought a quieter chapter—one of care, patience, and vulnerability—her true self never dimmed. She continued to show moments of joy, connection, and unmistakable strength, reminding us all of the woman she had always been.
Edna is pre-deceased by her husband Edwin Laing and granddaughter Emily Wilson. She is survived by her sister, Lois McDonald, her daughter, Laurie Laing (Mark Malandro), grandchildren Amanda Wilson, Sarah Wilson and Jason Wilson (Clarenda Wilson), as well as her great grandchildren, Brennan, Angelina, Jaxon and Violet who will carry her memory forward in their hearts and lives. Her love, wisdom, and quiet power will never be forgotten.
A memorial celebration of her life is planned for June 22nd, 2025 at Casey McCallum Rice South Shore Funeral Home at 12:30pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org.
We miss you, Mom. You were our rock, our teacher, and our home.
