
Financial services executive, Korean War veteran
Edward D. Peters, a decorated Korean War veteran, formerly of Westerleigh, Staten Island, peacefully passed away at his home in Parkside Village, Westerville, Ohio, on Sept. 4, 2016.
The rite of committal graveside service with Army Honor Guard is at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 8, 2016, at Moravian Cemetery, S.I.
Ed was born in Bayonne, N.J., moving to Staten Island as a young child. As a youth Ed enjoyed flying the remote-controlled airplanes built alongside his brothers with the Richmond Model Flying Club. He was a graduate of Curtis High School and attended Wagner College. He enjoyed cooking and fishing, and loved classic cars, the N.Y. Yankees and a good glass of wine.
Ed enlisted in the Army in 1950 becoming a medic with the 279th infantry regiment. He sailed to Korea aboard the USNS Gen. John Pope that April and served for two years. He was awarded the Army Occupation Medal Japan, the Bronze Star, and the Korean War Service Medal.
After returning from Korea, Ed found a job on Wall Street and worked his way up from runner to vice president of Alex Brown & Sons (Deutsche Bank), commuting on the S.I. Ferry each day. He retired in 1999.
Ed married Mary Patricia Peters (Piazza) in 1954. They made their home in Westerleigh for 34 years. 'Pat' passed away in 1988. Ed remarried Florence G. Peters (McKay) in 2000. They moved to Virginia and later to Hilton Head, S.C., where they enjoyed their beautiful retirement home overlooking the lagoon.
Ed is survived by Florence, his wife of 20 years; his devoted children, Kenneth Peters and daughter-in-law, Wendy; Kathy Ford and son-in-law, Dan. He was the cherished grand-dad of Meredith Croy, Meghan Fisher, Kaitlyn Ford and Kevin Ford. He is also survived by his caring step-daughter, Bitsy Lakas and her husband, Barry.
