

She was born on August 27, 1940, in Brooklyn, New York, to Michael and Evelyn Ragona. Ethel lived a life marked by resilience, warmth, and unwavering devotion to her family. She was previously married to James Peter Nelson-Mauro, with whom she shared four children: Donna, James, Raymond, and Lisa. She later shared many years with her husband, Alan Cohen, who predeceased her and was the father of her son, Eric.
Ethel was preceded in death by her daughter Donna Slavin and her son James Mauro.
She is survived by her children Raymond Nelson and his wife Patty; Lisa Vasquez; and Eric Cohen and his wife Jane Cohen; as well as her son-in-law James Slavin.
She was a cherished grandmother to Dustin, Christopher, Samantha and her wife Nora, Erika, Oliver, and Benjamin, as well as the late Victoria and the late Nathaniel. She was also a loving great grandmother to Tiffany and Rhys.
Ethel loved music and dancing, enjoyed a good White Russian, and liked getting glam and feeling her best. She rarely missed a chance to buy a lottery ticket, enjoyed watching boxing, and loved shopping at the mall. She also found comfort and community in attending church and valued time spent talking, laughing, and being together with the people she loved.
Above all, Ethel was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and aunt. She devoted her life to her family, always placing their needs before her own. Her love and steady presence will live on through the generations she leaves behind.
Ethel will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
