Eunice O. Kroon

Eunice O. Kroon (nee Benson), 86, of Staten Island, N.Y., passed away Thursday, June 22, 2017. She is survived by her children, Karin (Bert) Schaffer, Stephen (Sharon) Kroon, Karl (Naomi) Kroon, Martha (Peter) Hartmann, and John (Christine) Kroon.

She was the cherished grandmother of: Scott (Melissa), Marc (Megan) and Lauren Schaffer, Paul (Aileen), David (Samantha) Kroon, Luke Kroon, Rachel and Sarah Hartmann, Matthew, Jonathan, and Eric Kroon and great-grandmother of Samuel, Stella, Maya, Dylan, Emmarie, and Madison. Eunice was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Rev. Paul W. Kroon.

Ceramics, knitting, flower arranging, reading and coloring were among Eunice's hobbies in addition to having enjoyed the love of travel with husband, Paul. A member of the Paul W. Kroon Senior Center at Messiah for over 40 years, Sons of Norway, Mary Martha Sewing Unit, Eunice served as a hospital volunteer and also in the Befriender Program at St. Vincent's Hospital.

Eunice was a longtime member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Staten Island. Through the years, she was a choir member, delegate to the Synod Assembly for many years and represented Messiah's congregation at the Staten Island Conference meetings. She was a member of the Board of Staten Island Council of Churches and of WELCA, serving as the president for several years, and also served as the scout coordinator for Pack and Troop 8.

Eunice was loved by all who knew her and she will be dearly missed.

Friends may visit with the family at Casey Funeral Home, 350 Slosson Ave., Staten Island, N.Y., from 6 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, June 25, 2017. Funeral services for Eunice will be held Monday, June 26, at 11 a.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church, 205 Jefferson Blvd., Staten Island, N.Y. Interment will be at Ocean View Cemetery in Staten Island.

In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of your choice in memory of Eunice would be appreciated.
