

Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, Frances L. Nigro (nėe Nuzzo) passed away peacefully in her Mariner’s Harbor home on April 26, 2025, at the age of 97.
Born in New Brighton on June 27, 1927, as the third of seven children to parents Joseph and Lenora Nuzzo (nee Marotta), she was a lifelong resident of Staten Island, New York.
Frances is predeceased by her loving husband of forty-four years, Joseph F. Nigro. She is survived by her son and daughter in-law, Joseph F. and Roseann Nigro, daughter, Lenora Flynn, brother Michael Nuzzo, granddaughters, Jennifer Daly, and Kristine Nigro, and five great-grandchildren, Alison, Emily, Katherine, Adrianna, and Jack.
An avid parishioner and choir member of St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church in Mariner’s Harbor, Frances was a graduate of Curtis High School and volunteer at the Staten Island Children’s Museum.
For forty-nine years, beginning in 1963, Frances worked as a school aide at Markham Intermediate School 51. Known lovingly as “Granny” by students and teachers alike, Frances was a kind soul with a strong faith in God.
On the occasion of her 90th birthday, she received a Papal Blessing from The Holy Father, Pope Francis.
Frances will be remembered by her quick smile and laugh, and her love of music, dancing, and friends.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, April 29, 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Casey Funeral Home, 350 Slosson Avenue, Staten Island. Mass of Christian burial, will be held on Wednesday, April 30, 10:00am, St. Michael's RC Church, followed by interment at St. Peter's Cemetery.
Donations in Frances' memory can be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
