STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Frank M. Pinto, 73, of Monroe Township, N.J, a retired city police detective, security chief and investigator who was a loving father and grandfather, died Wednesday in University Medical Center of Princeton (N.J.) at Plainsboro.
Born in Rosebank and reared in Dongan Hills, he was a resident there until 2005, when he relocated to Monroe Township.
He graduated from New Dorp High School.
He worked for the New York City Police Department for 25 years, first as a police officer with the narcotics squad Manhattan division. He retired from the police department, in 1995, as a detective second grade in the 68th Precinct.
After leaving the force, Mr. Pinto worked for five years as head of security for Air France at JFK Airport, and then as an investigator for 15 years at the New York State Fraud Bureau. He also worked as a private investigator.
He was a member and delegate of the Detective's Endowment Association.
He enjoyed model trains and was an avid Lionel train "engineer," with an elaborate train setup in his attic. He was also passionate about golf, and his grandson, whom he doted on.
Described as a jokster with a great sense of humor, he had a tough exterior, but was soft-hearted, and his kind and generous nature will be missed by all who knew him, family said.
While living on the Island, he was a parishioner of St. Ann's R.C. Church, Dongan Hills.
He is survived by his daughter, Adrienne Adamkiewicz; his brother, Robert, and one grandson.
The funeral will be from the Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners, with a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Ann's Church. Burial will follow in Moravian Cemetery, New Dorp.
