Mr. Meier grew up on the Island and moved to Sunnyside in 1992.
The Port Richmond High School graduate worked for 20 years for the city Department of Sanitation in Manhattan and had been assigned to work at Ground Zero. He retired in 2005.
He owned many cats and considered them family members. He enjoyed drawing and watching football.
Mr. Meier was a parishioner of St. Teresa's R.C. Church, Castleton Corners.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Randy Kanofsky.
The funeral service will be Friday at 8 p.m. in the Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners. Arrangements include cremation.
