

Gerald Mulvaney, a native of Staten Island, N.Y., was born on December 27, 1936 to Thomas and Madeleine McDonnell Mulvaney and was the youngest of six children. He graduated from P.S. 40 and St. Peter’s Boys High School, both located in his then home community of New Brighton.
He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1955 and was honorably discharged in 1959. He married Florance Ahearn and presently resides in Westerleigh. On May 11, 2006, they celebrated their 50th anniversary. He is a proud father of three children, his daughter, Maureen Ellen (and husband, Dave) and two sons, Gerald (and wife, Debbie) and William (and wife, Laurie). Grandfather of six, Brian, Kelly (and husband, Richard), Daniel (and wife, Angela), Thomas, Katelyn and Conor; and great-grandfather of Jillian, Christian, Nicholas, and Liam.
He was a member of the International Elevator Constructors Union, Local 1, N.Y.C. and retired in February 2002 after working for 42 years. During this time as an elevator mechanic, he worked on some of the biggest skyscrapers in New York City. Additionally, he was a shop steward for approximately 25 years on various job locations. He presently is a member of the Staten Island Branch of the Local 1 Retirees Club – “The Golden Oldies”. He previously held the position of Secretary and for the past couple of years he is the club’s Social Director, running the club’s various picnics and parties.
He became a referee in the mid-60s in the Pop Warner Staten Island Boys Football League. He officiated Pop Warner football for over 25 years. In addition, he coached a bantam division team, winning several championships. He served as 2nd vice president on the SIBFL board for five years. He also began officiating football in the New York City Public School Athletic League (PSAL) and continues doing so for over 25 years. During that time, he held several positions in the Public School Athletic League Football Officials Association, including president.
He has been a parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Church for over 70 years and during this time, he belonged to various church organizations. He joined the Blessed Sacrament Titan League in the mid 60’s and coached and officiated in both the baseball and basketball programs. He served as a vice president of the league for three years and held the office of Baseball Commissioner for one year and Basketball commissioner for three years. He is presently a member of the Titan League Breakfast Club, which is made up of retired active Titan League members and also belongs to the Blessed Sacrament’s Holy Name Society.
He joined the J.F.K. Division 1, Ancient Order of Hibernians, Richmond County, in 1996 and took his Major Degree in 1998. He served as a Chairman of the Standing Committee and is currently the Recording Secretary, a position he has held for the past three years.
In 2004, he joined the Knights Colombus, Richmond Council #351. He Held the position of Recorder for two years and is presently the Inside Guard. In May of 2005, he took his Fourth Degree and is a member of the Knights of Colombus Governor Dongan Assembly.
Along with these organizations, he is a member of the Catholic War Veterans Post 1934, Staten Island, N.Y.
A visitation will be held at Casey Funeral Home, located at 350 Slosson Ave, Staten Island, NY 10314, on December 8, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
The funeral service will take place at Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Church, 1091 Forest Ave, New York, NY 10310, on December 9, 2025, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.
The committal service will follow at St. Peters Cemetery, 52 Tyler Ave, New York, NY 10310, on December 9, 2025, from 12:15 pm to 12:30 pm.
