

Born Gladys Bottone in Midland Beach, she was brought to Stapleton as a child and moved to Grasmere in 1998.
A graduate of New Dorp High School, Mrs. Powell worked in Manhattan before becoming a homemaker.
She later worked at Island Rehabilitative Serves as a medical records administrator for 23 years, and then as a certified home health care aide on Staten Island and in Palm Harbor, Fla., where she maintained a winter residence.
Mrs. Powell became a member of the Beacon Light Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star in 1975, and held various positions over the years including matron and district deputy grand matron.
She was also a member of Christ Church in Palm Harbor.
She enjoyed gardening and traveling. A recent highlight was a family trip to Italy last summer, a gift for her 70th birthday.
Her family described her as a happy and giving person.

Surviving are her sons, Guy, Wayne and Darren; a daughter, Diane Powell; two sisters, Elinor Carlin and Mary Schneider; a brother, John Bottone; four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be Thursday at 9:30 a.m. in the Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners. Arrangements include cremation.
