Humberto Fragoso was born in Cuba on December 6th, 1932 and was one of seven siblings. While growing up in Cuba he studied and became an environmental engineer. Humberto fled Cuba during the Castro regime and moved to Staten Island, NY where his brother was doing his medical residency. Staten Island was not only where Humberto spent most of his life, it was also where he met the love of his life Anita whom he cherished for 38 years. Humberto spent some time in upstate New York working as an engineer for Corning Glass, but eventually shifted his career to business owner when he purchased a liquor store. Fragoso Liquors became an iconic staple of the community, and he worked there until retirement. Humberto spent his free time enjoying good wine and good music, specifically noted in his love for the timeless opera singer Maria Callas. He was a student for life as an avid reader learning about different cultures and times in history, his favorite being the wild west. Humberto Fragoso was a cherished member of our family and although he will be missed dearly he will live on in our memories and in our hearts.
