Born Irma Luz Robles in Manati, Puerto Rico, she went to school there. She relocated to Manhattan's Upper West Side in 1969, and also lived in the Bronx, Stapleton and West Brighton before settling in Mariners Harbor 30 years ago.
Mrs. Munoz attended Fordham University, the Bronx.
She had a 42-year career as a junior accountant at Consolidated Edison, working at the company's main headquarters in Manhattan. She retired in 2012.
She and Pedro Samuel (Sam) Munoz were friends at work, but she turned him down the first time he asked for a date. He persisted, though, and the couple wed at City Hall 30 years ago in a true partnership of best friends.
Mrs. Munoz was as beautiful inside as she was outside, her family said. Everyone she met was touched by her kindness, her warm smile and her generosity.
She was a naturally talented dancer and loved ballroom dancing and taking salsa classes. A gifted cook, she made delicious Puerto Rican dishes as well as excellent Italian and Chinese food. She enjoyed watching boxing and Spanish novelas on television. And she was fond of gardening, particularly tropical plants.
Mrs. Munoz loved family time, especially playing with her grandchildren, whom she adored.
She was a parishioner of St. Michael's R.C. Church, Mariners Harbor, and a former parishioner of Sacred Heart R.C. Church, West Brighton.
Surviving, along with her husband, Sam, are her daughters, Marlene Renard, Grace Cano-Carrasco and Veronica Munoz; three brothers, Pascual, Jesus and Jose Enrique Robles; three sisters, Lucy, Aida and Milagros Robles, and five grandchildren.
The funeral will be Tuesday from the Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners, with a mass at 10 a.m. in St. Michael's Church. Burial will be in Christ Church Cemetery, South Amboy, N.J.
Arrangements under the direction of Casey Funeral Home, Staten Island, NY.
