

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Pastor Israel Roman, 86, of New Dorp and Brooklyn, who is remembered as a giving and caring minister and loving family man, died Saturday in Staten Island University Hospital, in Ocean Breeze.
Born in Isabela, Puerto Rico, he moved to Brooklyn in 1947. He had divided his time between New Dorp and Brooklyn for the past seven years.
He retired in 1988 after working for many years and in several capacities for Local 3, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
He was certified as a minister at a Manhattan Bible institute and later became pastor of Pentecostal Church of God in Brooklyn, where he was a 54-year member.
“He was the best daddy and grandpa in the world,” said his daughter, Vivian Comparato.
Surviving, along with his daughter, are his wife of 62 years, the former Doris Gerena; his son, Fundador; four brothers, Reynaldo, John, Nelson and Wilfredo; four sisters, Gloria, Maria, Edwina and Naomi, and three grandchildren.
The funeral service will be Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in the Christian Pentecostal Church, Concord. Burial will follow in Ocean View Cemetery, Oakwood. Arrangements are being handled by the Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners.
