James C. Benson

December 22, 1941 – February 9, 2022 James Chadwick Benson, age 80 passed away on February 9, 2022, at his home in the West Brighton neighborhood of Staten Island. He was the husband of Katherine A Benson. They shared 58 years of marriage together. Born in Great Kills, Staten Island NY, he was the son of Edwin J Benson and Jane Stewart McArthur Benson. He attended Wagner College, from 1959-1961, where he met his wife, Katherine. He later graduated from the School for Bank Administration at the University of Wisconsin in 1976. James was employed at Manufacturers Hanover Trust for over 30 years and worked as a VP; and owned and operated a Merry Maids Franchise. He went to Tottenville High School graduating in 1959. As a teen and college student he worked at Holtermann's Bakery part-time for nearly a decade, and the US Post Office during breaks at college; both of which he shared many fond memories. James will be remembered for his great affection for his children and grandchildren, his determined nature, and strong work ethic. An avid golfer, James loved reading, COSTCO, and cheering on his favorite sports teams the Giants and the Mets. He was a member of the Vestry at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, and an active participant of the Republican Party. He is survived by his spouse Katherine A. Benson; his daughters Donna J. Salvatore, Mary Ann Virga, his son-in-law Greg Virga; his daughter Jill K. Benson her partner Deborah Falk; his daughter-in-law Denise Benson, and his grandchildren Jaclyn Benson, Emily Virga, Gina Benson, Ryan Virga, Jake Salvatore, Kaleigh Salvatore, Liana Salvatore, Grace, and Joseph; and his sister Lois Rogers. He was predeceased by his son, Mark J Benson. The viewing will be held on Saturday February 12, 2022, from 2pm-6pm; with the funeral at 5:30pm at Casey Funeral Home at 350 Slosson Ave, Staten Island, NY. Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to The Leukemia And Lymphoma Society.
