

Born in Manhattan, Mr. Licata was brought to West Brighton as a child and settled in Castleton Corners 47 years ago.
During World War II, Mr. Licata served in the U.S. Navy, stationed in the European theater.
Afterwards, he owned an auto repair shop, South Avenue Service Station in Mariners Harbor, in the late 1960s and early 1970s. He also worked at Crowe’s Service Station in Westerleigh.
As a young man, Mr. Licata owned high-performance vehicles, which he raced at tracks in New Jersey. “He was a great man and an easygoing dad. He loved us all very much,” said his wife of 59 years, the former Lorraine Moran.
He was a parishioner of St. Teresa’s R.C. Church, Castleton Corners.
In addition to his wife, Lorraine, surviving are two sons, John Jr. and Frank Thomas; two daughters, Maria Licata and Lori Ann Licata; a sister, May Sagaria, and one granddaughter.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners.
