My dear friend and brother Ben Lorenzo:

My mind and heart will forever see Ben as the playful, mischievous young adult with a gentle tender heart. I remember our camping trip with the guys from Discipleship House. I woke up the first morning and saw this huge muddy circle in this otherwise perfect grass field. Come to find out that during the night, Ben had taken the keys to the “Intrepid” (our huge station wagon) and spun it around again and again! I was so mad I made everyone throw the tents in the car and we drove back to Brooklyn. But who could stay made at Ben for very long?

There probably won’t be any streets or buildings named after Ben. He hasn’t had fancy titles, fame or fortune. But Ben has a rich legacy here on earth and in heaven. When I pass, I want people to remember me the way I remember Ben.

We get caught up in politics, positions, doctrine and about being right. These things have their place but they divide us and we lose sight of what is really critical. Someone asked Jesus what was the most important commandment. Jesus said Love God with all your heart, and the second is to love your neighbor.

When I think about Ben, I am reminded of his enormous capacity to love! He loved God with all his heart, and loved people. When Ben loved you, you knew it was unconditional, it lasted forever through time and circumstances.

Ben, thank you for your love! Thank you for your life, for your example! I hope we all can be more like you!

Love you,

Dear brother and friend. I will miss our annual New Year's Day breakfast with you and Maria. Your humor and inspirational texts. Talking about the Mandalorian and hearing the excitement of your new ventures and family milestones. Until we meet again in heaven. Sleep in Eternal Peace and rejoice with our Lord Jesus, God, and the angels. 🙏🏻

I am honored to call Chaplain Jose Luis Lorenzo a true friend. I truly enjoyed every conversation, diner meal, surprise bus rides. You are a true example of what a Christian should be, denying them self and putting others first. I was honored to teach you the chaplaincy course. And to see your sacrifice and determination to graduate. Wish I had one more bus ride with you. R.I.P. brother. Love you.

Well Ben and I went way back. Hanging out in sunset park area. We had alot of fun. So many of us hanging on 5th ave or sunset park. One day we was talking and I had found out that my stepfather is his cousin. What a small world. And now I saw some pictures of Ben and his wife with my cousins Jose and his wife in New Jersey. You always was sweet and kind to me like a big brother. You will be truly missed. Always loved and never forgotten. We will meet again my brother. May you R.I.P. 😢❤

I don't have a memory because I did not know this young man But I knew his sister And if he was anything like Anita, he was very special. He had my same date of birth. Go forth and celebrate with Jesus

I thank God for such a "Warrior" that was sent to us (USA Chaplains Ministry) so that we all can learn what it takes to be come a child of God and a "Community Chaplain." He was much dedicated to his wife, Maria and his immediate and extended family members. He is consider to be one of "GOD'S GENERALS" as he Ministered to those in need. My condolence and prayers to his wife and family.
We, members of the USA Chaplains Ministry will miss him a lot and will remember his "Special Ministry."
