Joseph P. Choquette was a loving, dedicated and hardworking individual who always put the needs of others above his own. Born in Manhattan in 1940, he moved to Staten Island with his parents and siblings as a teenager. Joe joined the FDNY in February of 1962 where he was appointed to Ladder 11. Joe rose to the title of Lieutenant before retiring in September of 2000 from Ladder 87. Even after retirement, Joe was very involved with the FDNY including lending his hand in the recovery efforts after 9/11.
Joe was a skilled handyman taking on projects such as building his home in Flemington, NJ and renovating his home in Staten Island with his loving wife Barbara. Joe was also very knowledgeable with computers and technology which was shown in his creation and editing of the FDNY retirees newsletter. Joe was always available to help anyone in need and did so out of the kindness of his heart.
