

Born on November 6, 1937, in Staten Island to Irish American parents, Peter Charles and Catherine McKiernan, Marcelle was the only girl among four children. She is predeceased by her brothers John and Peter, along with their respective spouses Lorraine and Jennette. She is survived by her brother Eugene and his wife, Antoinette.
Marcelle had a diverse career, beginning with her work at Clark Dodge in Manhattan. She later became a hair stylist and then served as an NYC school aide before dedicating over 30 years to the Staten Island University Hospital Lab Department.
In 1960, Marcelle married Robert Van Alphen, and their marriage was a testament to enduring love, lasting 57 years. She is survived by her three children: Cynthia Daoust, married to David Daoust; Sandra Van Alphen; and Eileen Allegretti, married to Phil Allegretti. She also leaves behind a son-in-law, Sean Murphy. Her legacy extends to her grandchildren, Siobhan Malone, Tyler Malone, Michael Daoust, Megan Murphy-Tanner, Ashon Tanner, Sean Murphy, and Eileen Allegretti, as well as her great-grandson, Declan Malone.
Marcelle was known for her passion for shopping and pocketbooks, and she was affectionately called a spitfire by her friends. She cherished taking her grandchildren on annual Christmas Disney vacations and considered her children and grandchildren to be her world.
Visitation will be held at Casey-McCallum Rice Funeral Home, located at 30 Nelson Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10308, on December 1, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The funeral service will take place at Holy Child Roman Catholic Church, 4747 Amboy Rd, New York, NY 10312, on December 2, 2025, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. The committal service will follow at Ocean View The Cemetery Beautiful, 3315 Amboy Rd, New York, NY 10306, on December 2, 2025, from 11:30 am to 11:45 am.
Marcelle Ann Van Alphen will be fondly remembered by her family and friends for her spirited nature and the love she shared with those around her.
