Margarita was born in Matanzas, Cuba. The youngest child of Pedro A. and Virginia Fernandez joining brothers Alfredo, Antonio and sister Teresita. She immigrated to the USA in 1962 with her parents and sister settling in Staten Island. She lived in several SI communities since 1962.
Margarita began her professional career at Chemical Bank and completed 35 years of service with successor companies retiring from JP Morgan as a computer programmer and supervisor in 2004. She loved photography and was a member of the SI Photography club earning several awards with her keen eye. She had a wonderful group of friends from across her life. She enjoyed spending time with these friends and family enjoying bike rides, travel, celebrations or having a Cafecito or a glass of wine.
Margarita gave back to the community as a Meals on Wheels volunteer. She was also very active in the Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish. Her Roman Catholic faith was deep and served her well as she battled dementia.
She was predeceased by her parents and both brothers. She is survived by her sister Terry, sister law, nephews, nieces, many cousins and friends that will miss the “cool aunt /cousin /friend”
