Born Marianne Lopresti in the Dyker Heights community of Brooklyn, she moved to Forest Hills, Queens, as a girl. She later relocated to Greenwich Village before settling in Grasmere in 1984.
She graduated from Notre Dame School in Manhattan and the former Finch College, also in Manhattan. She received a master's degree in education from Fordham University.
Mrs. Carr was a fourth-grade teacher at PS 56, Rossville, for 10 years. She retired in 2011.
"Teaching was her lifelong dream and passion," said her son, David Carr.
Mrs. Carr loved plunging into a good book, especially inspirational stories, which were her favorite. A city girl at heart, she enjoyed spending time in Manhattan and often explored museums beside her husband, Michael.
She helped organize Christmas Eve dinners and summer picnics every year for as many as 60 family members, and she was a parishioner of Holy Rosary R.C. Church, South Beach.
Surviving, along with her husband of 28 years, Michael, and her son, David, are her mother, Marie Lopresti; a brother, Joseph Lopresti, and a sister, Lizabeth Hoeller.
The funeral will be Monday from the Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners, with a mass at 10:30 a.m. in Holy Rosary Church. Arrangements include cremation.
