Marjorie (Marge) Davidson passed away after a short illness at Richmond Hospital on Wednesday January fifth. A lifelong Staten Island resident, Marjorie lived at 700 Victory Boulevard for more than 50 years.
She was born on June 1, 1933, to Edward and Elsie Lederman. She grew up surrounded by her two older sisters, Dottie and Elsie. She attended McKee High School and at 16, she headed out for Wall Street, beginning a lifelong love and fascination with the stock market and trading. She married Robert Davidson (Bob), who she had known since childhood, in 1953. She and Bob were posted to Germany as part of Bob’s military service. Their oldest daughter Susan was born in Stuttgart and the three spent time in a post-war landscape that Marge always remembered.
They returned to Staten Island, where they had two more children, a son Robert (Bob) and another daughter Cynthia (Cindy). When discharged from the Army, Bob joined Proctor & Gamble where he worked until his retirement.
Marge raised their three children. She had a famous pot roast, and a slow cooked meatball sauce. She loved old Fred Astaire movies, could quote lines from “The Producers” and collected picture books of the old movie stars. She was a voracious reader, a fantastic scrabble player, and sharp hand at crossword puzzles. She taught herself video game skills to compete with her grandson at Super Mario Brothers. She was a keen and passionate investor, who always tracked the markets and her stocks. She got cable to watch the Financial News Network and she loved the late-night hosts and Saturday Night Live.
Bob passed away after a struggle with Parkinson’s in 2009. Marge missed him every day since.
She is survived by a loving family who miss her dearly. Her eldest sister Doris Leishen; her daughter Susan and her husband Mike Bartmon; her son Bob and his wife Mary Kate, their children: Deirdre Davidson and husband Doug Smith and their three children – Nat, Henry, and Ethan, son Bob, daughter Kate and her husband Houston Moncure, and daughter Fiona and her husband Andy Currie; and her youngest daughter Cindy.
A memorial service will be held later this year.
