

Born in Bayonne, he moved with his family to South Beach when he was a little boy. He and Judy Coughlin were married in 1968 and moved to West Brighton, then to Westerleigh in 1971. They later settled in Emerson Hill.
“My husband’s favorite times were around the table with his family and friends. He loved to joke and he was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend,” said his wife, Judy.
Mr. O’Donnell graduated from St. Peter’s Boy’s High School and earned his associate’s degree in business from the former Staten Island Community College.
Self-employed in the sales and marketing field, he worked primarily with supermarket chains.
Mr. O’Donnell enjoyed bowling, playing softball and in later years took to the game of golf. He coached his daughters’ Snug Harbor Little League team and was a member of the Staten Island Softball Oldtimers.
He was especially fond of his dual heritage: His mother was of Italian descent and his father’s family emigrated from Ireland.
Mr. O’Donnell was an avid traveler and enjoyed taking trips with his wife. Together they had journeyed to the Caribbean, Alaska, Hawaii and Europe, often with friends.
He was a parishioner of St. Sylvester’s R.C. Church, Concord.
Surviving, along with Judy, his wife of 43 years, are his daughters, Amy O’Donnell and Kerry Cardoza; his sister, Margaret O’Donnell; his brother, Thomas, and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be Monday from the Harmon Home for Funerals, West Brighton, with a mass at 10:30 a.m. in St. Sylvester’s Church. Burial will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery, West Brighton.
