Muriel Rose Skidmore, 83, passed away on Thursday, February 27, in Staten Island, New York, after a long struggle with Parkinson's. Her life was defined by love for her family, dedication, style, faith, integrity, and most remarkably, her courage and resiliency. Muriel inspired all who knew her as she faced her life's challenges with grace and determination, all while staying true to herself.
Muriel was born on May 21, 1941, to Joseph and Pauline Pape of Tompkinsville, Staten Island, New York. She attended Public School 16 and Curtis High School. Graduating in 1959, she worked at the Bank of New York. In 1964, she married Lee Skidmore and had two sons, Steven and Jeffrey. After taking a break to raise her family, she returned to work for the Board of Education as a Paraprofessional.
Muriel enjoyed being with her sons and providing for them in every way a mother can. She loved being with her brothers and sisters and cooking her legendary large Italian meals for the entire family weekly. She cherished holidays, seeing them as opportunities to create special moments and surprises that brought joy and smiles to her loved ones.
Her legacy of courage, strength, and dedication to tradition has created lasting memories for those fortunate enough to share in her journey. She truly cherished every moment spent with her family and left an indelible mark on all our hearts.
Muriel is survived by her sisters Joan Rivera and Donna DeWaters, her sisters-in-law Caroline Pape and Maryann Pape, her sons Steven Skidmore and Jeffrey Skidmore, her daughter-in-law Susan Skidmore, and her three "sweet angels" Jeffrey, Brandon, and Tyler, whom she spoiled and loved infinitely.
Her surviving family members will carry forward her spirit and cherish the memories they created together.
