Oreste Fazio, known as "Ernie" to his family and friends passed peacefully in his daughter’s home, surrounded by loved ones, at the age of 82. Ernie grew up in the Windsor Terrace section of Brooklyn where he met his soulmate and future bride Georgiana Hayeck at the age of 13. Georgi and Ernie were happily married until her passing in 2005. They had three children, Lisa (Paladino), Christine (Bennett), and Stephen, a daughter-in-law Susan, sons-in-law Russ and Tom, and 7 grandchildren: Andrew, Samantha, Jessica, Victoria, Kayla, Alex, and Jillian, His latest joy was his great grandson Daniel. His beloved “Chrissy” passed in 1998.
The only time Ernie left Georgi’s side, were the years he served in the US Air Force, stationed in France. His life of service didn't end there, however, as he went on to be a NYC Police Officer, retiring in 1983. He then pursued his love for driving by starting a new career as a commuter livery owner/operator and later an executive chauffeur for JP Morgan.
He had an incredible appreciation for nature, animals and mostly birds. He instilled in his kids and grandkids a passion for baseball, never missing an inning of a NY Met Game, sending a “Put it in the books” message to Lisa and Stephen after each win.
He and Georgiana loved traveling together in particular to St. Maarten with friends, and shared countless memories of fun times from these trips. Ernie was happiest spending time with his wife Georgiana, their children, grandchildren, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, many cherished nieces and nephews, and dear friends, including his friend Nancy. Ernie was a true gentleman, loved by everyone who had the honor of knowing him.
