Raymond Miles Bush III, father, husband, educator, and community mediator, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2026, in Port Charlotte, FL, at the age of 82. Born on September 2, 1943, in Staten Island, NY, Raymond's journey was marked by dedication, compassion, and a warmth that drew people to him.
He attended Blessed Sacrament Elementary School in Staten Island and graduated from Xaverian High School in Brooklyn. Raymond's academic pursuits led him to Long Island University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in psychology and a master's in guidance and counseling. He completed another master's degree in supervision and administration at the College of Staten Island.
Raymond met the love of his life, Barbara Evelyn Bush (née Mitchell), while they were both studying at LIU. Their marriage spanned 24 years until Barbara's passing in April of 1996. Raymond and Barbara were blessed with a son, Raymond Miles Bush IV, who was not only his father's namesake but also his pride and joy, sharing his birthday and becoming a central part of his world.
For 34 years, Raymond served the New York City Board of Education as a teacher and guidance counselor, guiding countless students with his wisdom and kindness. Upon retirement, Raymond continued to give back to his community by volunteering as a mediator at the Charlotte County Court System and serving as a school counselor and mentor for the Charlotte County School System.
Raymond's interests were as vibrant as his personality. After moving to Port Charlotte full-time following retirement, he immersed himself in the community, reconnecting with family, friends, and former colleagues. He was proud of his ability to play the piano, and he cherished the opportunity to socialize with neighbors and share stories of his life in New York.
His legacy is one of love, education, and service, and he will be profoundly missed by his son, Raymond Miles Bush IV, as well as by the many lives he touched.
Raymond was predeceased by his father, Raymond Miles Bush II, his mother, Ruby McCalla, and his beloved wife, Barbara.
As we bid farewell to Raymond Miles Bush III, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of compassion and joy. His memory will remain a guiding light for his family, friends, and the countless individuals whose lives he enriched.
