

Robert E. (Bob) Mulligan of Fort Wadsworth passed away peacefully at home on January 13, 2025. Bob was born in 1929 and was the son of James E. and Virginia B. (nee Arnold) and older brother to sister Virginia E. Bob and his sweetheart, Marie Eadicicco, who were both born, raised and residents of Ft. Wadsworth, fell in love and were married on September 15, 1951. They shared 58 beautiful years of marriage. Robert and Marie had four children, Patricia, Robert, James, and Gary.
He was a devout Catholic and parishioner of St. Mary’s Rosebank R.C. Church where he, Marie and his family established many longtime bonds and friendships. He especially enjoyed being with his large extended Italian family whether eating a delicious meal or just having a glass of Pop’s homemade wine. He equally enjoyed his small Irish family gatherings especially the delicious desserts that his much younger, baby sister, Ginny, would bake since she only needed to go to the bakery to buy the boxes to put them in.
He enjoyed traveling with Marie and their friends to many different states or going on his yearly vacations to Shawnee in Pennsylvania. He was a loyal Yankee fan and enjoyed watching both the football Giants and painfully the Jets as well.
Being a true patriot and following in the tradition of his Grandfather Patrick and Uncle Jack Mulligan, upon turning 17 years old, volunteered with the U.S. Army before his Senior year of high school with parental consent from his father. He served in the Army during the end of World War II and was stationed along the northeast border of Italy attaining the rank of Private First Class and being awarded the World War II Victory Medal.
In 1955 he joined the New York City Police Department and then was appointed to the FDNY. Initially assigned to L-131 in Red Hook, Brooklyn and then transferred to L-80 where he was the assigned chauffeur for 30 years. He retired in 1990 from L-80, after 35 years of service. Bob is survived by his daughter Patricia Averack, sons, Robert (Sandra), James (Sharon), and Gary (Lori), 11 grandchildren: Jennifer Pisani (David), Christine Averack (Richard Malone), David Averack (Nicole), Robert (Valerie), Jessica Prasnal (Daniel), Tricia Averack-Luna (Victor), Tiffany (Daniel Mazzone), Gary (Alexa), Sean (Sharon), Taylor Stark (Kevin), and Noelle Totino(Francesco), and 20 great grandchildren. He is also survived by many members of the Mulligan, Pirot, Eadicicco, Conti, Pellegrino, and Rizzo families. He was predeceased by his wife, Marie, sister, Virginia (Pirot) Tarallo, daughter in law, Jodi, son in law, David Averack, and many brothers and sister in laws.
He also leaves behind his longtime aide, Emilia, who has taken excellent care of him throughout the many years.
Visitation will be held at Casey Funeral Home, 350 Slosson Ave, on Friday, January 17th from 4-8pm. Funeral Mass Saturday, 10am at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 466 Tompkins Ave. followed by interment at Moravian Cemetery.
