

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce the passing of Rose Arena, who departed this life peacefully on May 23, 2025, at the remarkable age of 97.
Born in Brooklyn to Vera and Gerard Vaccaro, Rose always met life with resilience, grace, and a kind heart. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend, whose wisdom and warmth touched everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Rose’s life was defined by her devotion to family and faith, her strength of character, and her unwavering spirit. She created a home filled with love, laughter, and warmth. Rose loved to cook and made the best meatballs and sauce. Her stories, compassion, and unwavering love will be treasured forever. Rose was “Nanny” to all who knew and loved her.
Rose is predeceased by her beloved husband Mel, son Robert, son-in-law Tony, and her siblings Terry (Sonny), Florence (Jimmy), Ann (Vinny), and John.
Her legacy lives on through her daughter Emy, her son Gerard, and daughters-in-law Denise and Jennifer. Rose was an adored grandmother to Danielle (Andy), Robbie, Alexandra, Kim, and Brooke, and a proud great-grandmother to Hudson, Brecken, and James.
Services will be held Thursday May 29, 2025 at Casey McCallum Rice Funeral Home (Nelson Ave, Staten Island) from 4pm-8pm. The funeral mass will be held at St Clare’s Church, Staten Island, on Friday May 30, 2025 at 9:45am. Rose will be laid to rest at The Green-Wood Cemetery Brooklyn NY.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Rose’s memory to St Jude Research Hospital.
May she rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love she so generously gave.
