Rosemarie Kessig, a third generation Staten Islander, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 7, 2025. Raised in West Brighton, a graduate of St. Peter's High School, Rosemarie attended Norte Dame College for two years before leaving school to care for her bedridden mother. She married her high school sweetheart, Edward Kessig. She and Ed, the love of her life, were married for 70 years. After her mother=s death they lived at the Brown family home on Clove Rd. with her father, Robert Brown Sr. and her brothers Thomas and James.
Faith and family were the dominating forces in her life.
Rosemarie was an active parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Church. Later, having moved to Grant City, she taught religious education and was a member of the Legion of Mary in St. Christopher Church.
A cause close to her heart was the Pro-Life Movement. She and her husband participated in the Right to Life March on Washington for many years. They actively sponsored Good Counsel Homes, and also coordinated ARight to Life@ essay contests and oratorical competitions for Staten Island high school students.
Rose and her husband were world travelers. They took their family on cruises to celebrate their 50th and 60th wedding anniversaries. They traveled extensively in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. They also journeyed to South America, Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
Golf was a favorite past-time, a passion she shared with her husband. They were fortunate enough to play some famous golf courses in the U.S. and Europe. Hemlock Farms, PA was their country retreat and they enjoyed golfing at nearby Paupack Hills. Rose scored a hole in one, even before her husband/coach.
She is survived by her four children, Elizabeth Kuck, Christine Travers, Moya Kessig, Edward Kessig Jr., nine grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren, and one on the way. Niece Janet Curry, deceased, nephew John Roys, deceased, and nephew Kenneth Kessig, lived with the Kessig family for a number of years.
Rose leaves behind two sisters-in-law, Joanne Brown and Donna Brown, as well as many dear nieces and nephews.
Rhodesia Mohammed and Hermin Lawrence were her devoted caretakers.
