Ruth C. Hartell passed away on August 11, 2021 at the age of 86. She was born on August 13, 1934, the daughter of George Landau and Ruth V. Landau (Volkert). Ruth was a graduate of Curtis High School. A strong and independent woman, Ruth raised two sons, Gregg and Mark, while completing her Associate, Bachelor and Master degrees at the College of Staten Island specializing in Early Childhood Education. Ruth began as a teacher working in the child care field and eventually retired as the Director of the Sister Elizabeth Boyle Child Learning Center, part of the former Bayley Seton Hospital in Stapleton. Through her years of dedicated service, she touched the lives of many students and parents. Even in retirement, Ruth loved interacting with people working as an Office Assistant for Dr. Andrew Przybyla on Staten Island. However, her true passion was her family. Ruth was a constant source of joy and support in the lives of her sons and her grandchildren Alyssa (Gregg Hartell) and David (Mark Hartell).
Ruth is predeceased by her parents, her brother (George R. Landau) and her daughter-in-law (Elizabeth Hartell).

Afterglow
I’d like the memory of me
to be a happy one,
I’d like to leave an afterglow
of smiles when life is done.
I’d like to leave an echo
whispering softly down the ways,
of happy times and laughing times
and bright and sunny days.
I’d like the tears of those who grieve,
to dry before the sun of happy memories
that I leave behind when day is done.
