December 8, 1944 – February 3, 2025
Samuel Augustus Browne who everyone called Sam and to his parents and brothers he was Sammy, was the first born to the late Edna and Samuel Browne on December 8, 1944 in Staten Island, NY. He graduated from Port Richmond High School and later attended John Jay College. Sam was a huge sports fan. He especially loved football and baseball. He even tried out for the NY Yankees back in his day. In Sam’s spare time, he loved to read, do crossword puzzles, and watch TV. He has probably never missed an episode of Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. Anyone that knows Sam, also knows his two favorite things to do: go to the casino and go cruising. Him and his wife Marcia made sure to go on AT LEAST one cruise every year. Sam was also a proud Marine and honorably served in the Vietnam War.
In 1981, he met his future wife, Marcia, and they were married in 1982. Together, they raised two wonderful children, Craig and Corrin, who were the joy of his life. He was a dedicated and loving father, and he found great pride in being a grandfather to his three beautiful granddaughters: Rosaleigh, Cori and Cali.
Sam’s professional career spanned many years, first with the Department of Corrections, where he rose to the rank of Assistant Deputy Warden. Upon retirement, he worked as a security officer for ABC. Sam was known for his strong work ethic, integrity, and leadership.
He is survived by his loving wife Marcia, his children Craig and Corrin (Ike), his grandchildren Rosaleigh, Cori, and Cali, his brother Donald Browne (Kim), his sisters-in-law Barbara Browne, Krys Browne, Genevieve Morgan and his brother-in-law Howard (Digna) Forbes, as well as cousins, and several nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother Edna, father Samuel, and brothers Randy and Edward.
A wake will be held on Monday, February 17, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Harmon Funeral Home. The funeral service will take place on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at 10:00 AM, also at Harmon Funeral Home, followed by a burial at Moravian Cemetery. A repast will follow at The Staaten.
Samuel will be dearly missed by all who knew him, and his memory will forever live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
