Born on August 19, 1958, in Staten Island to Weston and Audrey Biggs, Sandy was a proud Staten Islander through and through. He graduated from Moore Catholic High School and went on to serve 25 years as a Corrections Captain, earning the respect of colleagues through his leadership and steady presence.
Sandy found his greatest joy in time spent with family and friends. He loved golfing, especially when surrounded by those closest to him, and treasured summers down the Jersey Shore, where he could often be found out on his boat or water skiing with loved ones. A devoted father, he cherished every moment with his sons and took immense pride in coaching youth basketball and baseball at Blessed Sacrament, where he had the special privilege of coaching his own boys.
An avid fan of the New York Yankees and Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Sandy rarely missed a game and could always be counted on to share his pessimistic enthusiasm for his teams. He was known for his honesty, generous spirit, and unwavering willingness to help anyone in need, whenever and wherever he was called upon.
Sandy is survived by his sons, Ryan and Kevin; his grandson, Christopher; his daughter-in-law, Ryan; his little sister, Kathy; his sister-in-law, Maria; and his ex-wife, Dorothy. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Christopher, and his parents, Weston and (Audrey)Nancy.
Sandy’s legacy lives on in the family he loved so deeply, the lives he mentored, and the countless people who were better for having known him.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
