Sonya Ann Olsen

Sonya Ann Seland Olsen passed away on December 29, 2025 after a long illness. Born April 20, 1947 in Brooklyn, New York, she was the only daughter of Norwegian immigrants, Peder and Sophie Seland. Sonya grew up on “Lapskaus Blvd”, a Brooklyn Norwegian enclave. She was raised in the Lutheran faith and attended 59th Street Lutheran Brethren Church.

When Sonya graduated from Fort Hamilton High School, she attended beauty school in Manhattan, eventually becoming a skilled beautician. She married Kenneth (Kenny) Olsen in November, 1970. Together, they raised three children Michele, Steven and Brian. They remained together until Kenny’s passing in January, 2007.

In her free time, Sonya enjoyed traveling, theater and spending her days in Manhattan shopping and exploring museums and craft Sonya is survived by her children, Michele(Ben), Steven and Brian(Britt), bonus daughter Carolyn McGahan, Sonya’s grandsons Adam, Zachary and Benjamin, her sister in law, Elisabeth (Betty) Olsen, Jennifer Olsen and the King family.

While Sonya will be terribly missed by her family, they take comfort in knowing that she is reunited with Kenny and her parents and is in her heavenly home with the Lord.

A committal service will take place at Ocean View The Cemetery Beautiful, 3315 Amboy Rd, New York, NY 10306, on January 3, 2026, from 11:00 am to 11:30 am.
