Born and raised in Staten Island, Steve graduated from St. Peter’s Boys High School in 1971, and had many close friendships that endured for decades. In his younger years, he was a great drummer and spent countless Sundays playing softball.
He worked for over 30 years as a circulation district manager for the Staten Island Advance, overseeing paper delivery across the South Shore.
Steve had a deep love for cars, especially German ones. He was drawn to beautiful machines, open roads, and open skies. Of all his automotive passions, he was most proud of building his Blue BMW 2002. He also followed Formula 1 closely, attending races at Watkins Glen, Lime Rock Park, and Hockenheim in Germany.
He had a sharp sense of humor, a strong presence, and a gift for making people laugh. He loved blasting rock music (Cream was his favorite) and never had trouble being the loudest guy in the room. Yet he found his peace in nature, especially in the mountains of New Hampshire, the Adirondacks, and any stretch of beach he could find.
He was immensely proud of his children and delighted by his grandsons.
Steve was predeceased by his parents, Jack and Dolores Konko, and his sister, Lynn Konko. He is survived by his son, Chris Konko (Jenny) and his grandchildren, Ford and Knox Konko; his daughter, Dayna Konko; and his sister, Karen Errichiello.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, June 6 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Casey McCallum Rice South Shore Funeral Home, 30 Nelson Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10308.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Steve's memory may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
