Vincent A. "Jimmy" Navarino

A native Staten Islander born February 5, 1931 – July 16, 2021 to parents Carmella (Navarino) Ruggiero, Maiden Name Carmella Cimmino, and Anthony J Navarino. He married the love of his life, Rose M. Madonia, on January 14, 1956 who passed on January 23, 1988. They had one son, Anthony Vincent Navarino, who married Angela R Gallo and they gave him three granddaughters Toni Ann, Tamara Lynn and Victoria Rose. He was so proud of his granddaughters Toni Ann who married Antonio Gramegna and great-granddaughters Isabella Rose and Alessia Joelle. Tamara Lynn married Joseph Iacono and great-grandchildren Joseph Justin, Gianna Lynn and Ava Noelle. The grandchildren loved to play cards with Poppy Jim.

My dad lived a simple life, worked hard and could literally fix anything. My dad taught me to love baseball as he was an avid and dedicated NY Yankee fan. The biggest thing he ever taught me was to RESPECT everyone you come in contact with! He loved vacationing with the family at Villa Roma. Our neighbors called him Mayor of Vincent Ave. Yes, Vincent lived on his namesake avenue. His best buddy, his twin Charles A Navarino, will miss him so much since they attended many events together. The twins were so proud that they turned 90 this year.

His first job was with the Great American Indemnity Co. before joining the United States Air Force from February 9, 1951 until August 19, 1953, held rank of Corporal. Due to the death of his father, he got out on a Hardship Discharge from service. After the service, he went to work for his Uncle Nick Navarino at Aero Roofing Co August 1953 to May 1955. He worked for a short while with City of New York as a labor before working for Cameron Machine Co, NJ from May 1955 until December 1956. He then started his career with the B&O Railroad & C7O Railroad, Clifton Staten Island December 1956 to 1964 as an Electrican Helper in which in 1964 became an Electrician working up to rank as a Foreman in 1975 until 1987 and became Deputy Superintendent in which he gave up a year later when wife Rose became sick with breast cancer and went back to being an Electrician which now was called Staten Rapid Transit Operation Authority and retired February 1993.

He attended PS 17 in New Brighton and Graduated McKee Vocational & Technical High School in 1949. While in the Air Force went to Electronics School.

A member of many Clubs & Organizations: He was a proud Usher of the Church of the Assumption, New Brighton for over 60 years. He was a Chaplain for Granito Smith Post #1296 and member of A.A.R.P. Oakwood, Richmond Chapter #643, a member of Local No #3 of I.B.E.W Retirees Association, was past Vice Chairman. Also, a member William C La Morte Lodge #2251 Order of the Sons of Italy in America, had held Officer as Orator.

In addition to his son Anthony and his family, surviving is his brother Charles A Navarino (deceased wife Angie) and sister in law Adrienne Watson (deceased Husband Bob ) and many nieces and nephews. Also, preceded in death by sisters Phyllis Castaldi (husband Armand) and Dolores Merrell (husband John) and brother Anthony J Navarino (wife Silvia) and preceded in death by sister in law Arleen Wiley and companion Theresa M Largo.
