

Distinguished New York, New Jersey Sandy Hook Pilot
Captain William (Bill) O’Neill “Crossed the Bar” on January 12, 2018. A native Staten Islander, Captain O’Neill grew up in Silver Lake. A 1956 graduate of St. Peter’s Boys High School, served in the army from 1956 to 1958, stationed in Fort Meyer working in the Pentagon as an MP. Captain O’Neill had a distinguished 38 year career as a NY, NJ Sandy Hook pilot, retiring in 1998 as a senior pilot. He was a member of the Jacques Committee and Sacred Heart Youth Activity Council.
After marrying Trinita, they moved to Randall Manor where they raised their family. He enjoyed boating and fishing at his summer home in Nejecho Beach and was also an avid golfer, gardener and reader. He travelled with his beloved wife to Europe, Africa, Asia, South America, Australia, Caribbean and numerous locations in the US.
Loving husband, father and grandfather, Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Trinita (nee McDermott) of 53 years; beloved children Colleen (husband Jeff), and John (wife Karen) and three grandchildren, Kendall, Sarah and William II. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth (nee Gallagher), William H O’Neill, and sister, Carol Beihl. Bill is also survived by many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation at Casey Funeral Home on Sunday, 2-5; Monday 2-4; 7-9. Funeral service at Sacred Heart Church, Tuesday, January 16th at 11 am. Burial to follow at Moravian Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s hospital.
