
Mrs. Browning was born in Savannah and had lived many years in the Nevils area. Anne received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Georgia, her master’s degree from Armstrong State University and her six-year degree from Georgia Southern University and had post graduate studies in genetic psychology from Emory University. She used her talents and abilities in the classroom teaching to enhance learning as a clinical psychologist and used art and music as an adjuctive therapy. Mrs. Browning retired from the Chatham County Public School System and the Mental Health Management of Vienna, VA. Anne was a member of Nevils United Methodist Church, serving as their pianist for a number of years and was also the pianist at several other local churches, including St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Anne was an artist and musician, playing the violin in many orchestras across the southeast.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry D. Browning and parents, Curtis Grimes and Edna Hodges Tootle.
Anne is survived by her children, Robert Edward Smith, Jr., Kenneth Emanuel Smith and Allison Michelle Bryan and her husband, Robert; three grandchildren, Jason Edward Smith, Suzanna Smith and Kristen Smith; brother, Dr. Jerry Curtis Tootle and sister-in-law, Janet Tootle; three great-grandchildren, Alex, Emma and Eden Smith.
A private graveside funeral service and burial will be held in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, in Savannah, GA, with Reverend Kevin Smith officiating.
