Betty was born in Savannah on August 13, 1927 to the late George and Daisy Adams and had lived most of her life in Bulloch County. Betty was employed for many years as a seamstress at the sewing factory in Pembroke and later worked for the Georgia Southern Bookstore, working there for 12 years. But her most enjoyable job was that of being a homemaker. Betty was a wonderful cook and was well known for her cornbread dressing and creamed corn. She spent many hours cooking for family and friends who were ill or who had experienced a death in their families. Mrs. Hood very much enjoyed entertaining her family at Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas and other holidays and was a faithful member of Trinity Baptist Church, where she attended the Roscoe Roberts Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the God’s Companion Group.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Hugh Lawrence Hood, Jr.
Mrs. Hood is survived by her children, Barbara Lanier and her husband, Billy of Nevils; Joseph Hood and his wife, Pat; Jack Hood and his wife, Karen; Jimmy Hood; and H. L. Hood, III all of Bulloch County; sisters, Katie Adams and Dorthey A. Holtz both of Savannah; Joan A. McElveen and her husband, Kenneth of Brooklet and June A. Harville and her husband, Kenneth of Statesboro; brothers, Dean Adams and his wife, Jean of Pembroke; and Leon Adams and his wife, Gail of Ellabell; eight grandchildren, Christy L. Inman, Leigh L. Price, Dana Marie Haas, Michael Hood, Jennifer Hood, Allen Hood, Brandon Hood and Joseph Hood; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A gathering of family and friends will be held 5:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday, October 23, 2018 in Hodges-Moore Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 24, 2018 in the chapel of Hodges-Moore Funeral Home with Reverend Joe Eason officiating.
The burial will follow in Bulloch Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be: Allen Hood, Brandon Hood, Joseph Hood, Michael Hood, Billy Haas, Roger Inman, Michael Price and Christopher McKinney.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Roscoe Roberts Sunday School Class.
The family of Mrs. Hood would like to acknowledge and give special thanks to the caring staff at Ogeechee Area Hospice for their excellent care at their inpatient facility. An also extend appreciation to Drs. Scott Bohlke, Michael Taormina, and Harsh Bhushan for their devoted care over the past months.
