Imogene Brannen

Mrs. Brannen was an eighth generation Bulloch Countian born in Statesboro to the late Walter Grady and Edith Mae Kennedy Groover. Imogene was a 1958 graduate of Georgia South University (Georgia Teacher’s College) and was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Statesboro. She was a former member of the Lady’s Golf Association at Forest Heights Country Club and was a charter member of the Bulloch County Historical Society, where she had served as Vice-President and Secretary. She was also a member of the American Legion Post 90 Ladies Auxiliary. Imogene served as Regent, Vice-President, Chaplain and held most every Chairmanship within the Daughters of the American Revolution and was often called “The Flag Lady” due to her patriotism and love of country. Imogene was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Dock A. Brannen and her sister, Frances Groover Tillman. She resided at Southern Manor Retirement Inn for the past five years, after the death of her husband.

Imogene is survived by 3 children, Brenda Johns and her husband, Mike of Statesboro; Janet Gorny and her husband, Thomas of Ponte Vedra, FL and Dock Brannen and his wife, Angel of Guyton, five grandchildren, Michelle Hancock and her husband, Cliff of Sandersville, GA, Richard Hendrix of Mobile, AL; Brent Hendrix of Statesboro; Thomas M. Gorny and Chaddwick Gorny both of Ponte Vedra, FL.; six great-grandchildren also survive.

The family will receive friends 4:00 to 6:00 PM Sunday, May 3, 2015 in Hodges-Moore Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Monday, May 4, in the Chapel of First Baptist Church of Statesboro with Dr. H. William Perry officiating.

Entombment will be in Bulloch Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Pallbearers will be Brent Hendrix, James Leeb, Michael Gorny, Chaddwick Gorny, Cliff Hancock and Ralph Cowart.

Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the DAR.
