

Mr. James Kenneth “Kenny” Ellis, age 60, died Saturday afternoon as a result of injuries he sustained in a single vehicle accident on Kennedy Bridge Road. He was a native and lifelong resident of Hopeulikit, Ga. and a graduate of Portal High School, class of 1970. Kenny was co-owner of Ellis Meat Market in Statesboro and Savannah and served in the Georgia National Guard. He was also a member of Friendship Baptist Church.
Survivors are his wife of 25 years, Jackie H. Ellis, of Hopeulikit, his children, three daughters ; Lannette E. Skrine (Scott), Hannah E. Deal (Tracey),and Kaitlin Ellis all of Portal; one son Kenneth “Kyle” Ellis of Hopeulikit; his mother and father, James Lannie and LeVaughn Smith Ellis, of Hopeulikit; 2 sisters, Angela “Angie” E. Edenfield (Joe) of Statesboro and Pamela E. Ballew (Stan) ,of Tifton, Ga. ;One brother Lannie Kimball Ellis (Shirl), of Hopeulikit. Grandchildren; J.T., Laina and Jimilyn Skrine and Alexis, McKayla and Colton Cone. A special aunt, Faye Hagin, of Statesboro, many cousins, several nieces and nephews and a special beloved pet ,“Bird Dog”.
Funeral services for Mr. Ellis will be held 2:00pm Tuesday, April 9th, at Friendship Baptist Church.
Visitation will be held Monday from 2:00pm till 4:00pm and from 7:00pm till 9:00pm at the funeral home. Tuesday visitation will be held at Friendship Baptist Church Fellowship Hall from 12:30pm till 1:30pm
Burial will be in the Church Cemetery.
Active Pallbearers will be Dale Vickery, Neal Sapp, Dr. Harvey Elerson, Kenny Dickey, David Brown, Tommy Thurson, Robert Allen White and John Roach.
Honorary Pallbearers will be all the employees of Ellis Meat Markets.
Memorials may be made to the Coastal Region Alzheimer’s Association, 201 Television Circle, Savannah, Ga. 31406 in honor of Kenny’s father, Lannie Ellis.
