

Mrs. Jane C. Gray, age 78, died Thursday, May 12, 2011, at East Georgia Regional Medical Center. She was born in Senoia, Georgia and lived in Bulloch County for the last fifty two years. Mrs. Gray taught school for thirty two years and retired from Statesboro High School. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Statesboro and loved her Sunday School Class, Pilgrims and Prodigals. Mrs. Jane loved people and she touched the lives of many individuals as an educator. She was an avid gardener, loved playing bridge and hand and foot and sending notes to lift people’s spirits. Mrs. Gray attended the University of Georgia, received her Bachelor of Science in Education from Auburn University-The Alabama Polytechnic Institute. She received her Masters in Education and her 6 year degree from Georgia Southern College. She was a member of the National Business Educators, Southern Business Educators, PAGE, American Vocational Associations and Pi Omega Pi. Mrs. Gray was preceded in death by her husband, Ben B. Gray and her parents, C.H. and Dovie Cleveland, two brothers, J. W. Cleveland and Parker H. Cleveland and one sister Elizabeth C. Cobb.
Survivors include her three children, Bebo (Jackie) Gray of Marietta, GA, Nancy Griffin of Fayetteville, GA and Kim Durfee of Statesboro; five grandchildren, Ben, Jake and Hunter Griffin of Fayetteville and Melanie and Nancy Durfee of Statesboro; two sisters, Joyce Smith of Senoia, GA and Nerine Grubaugh of Savannah; one brother, Harry Cleveland of Dadeville, Alabama; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Hodges-Moore Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held Monday at 11:00 A.M. at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dan Lewis officiating.
The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.
Burial will be in Eastside Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Pilgrims and Prodigals Sunday School Class.
