

Mr. Johnie Lewis Porter, age 84, died peacefully at home Wednesday morning, June 10, 2015 after a long illness. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict, serving one year in Korea. After his discharge from active duty, he served four years as an Air Force Reservist. He was raised in Forsyth County and graduated high school there. He was employed with the Georgia Department of Education, retiring after 35 years of service. He had many hobbies that he enjoyed after retirement. Mr. Porter was a member of Gracewood Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon for many years and was also very active in many other church functions. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Dorothy D. Porter; three children, Deborah porter, Douglas porter (Susan), and Michael Porter (Sheila); three beautiful grandchildren, Steven Porter, Ryan Porter, and Lauran Porter; one brother ; two sisters ; nieces and nephews also survive.
The Porter Family will receive friends and family Friday, June 12th 5:00 p.m. until 7:00p.m.at Hodges-Moore Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, June 13th at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Hodges-Moore Funeral Home with the Reverend Carl Ledbetter officiating.
Entombment with military honors will take place at Bulloch Memorial Gardens .
