

Mr. Dowdy was born and raised in Savannah, graduating from Herschel V. Jenkins High School in 1961. He then attended Georgia Institute of Technology graduating in 1965 with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Civil Engineering. After graduation, he moved to Rocky Mount, NC and in 1973 became co-owner of INCO, Inc., an industrial contracting company, retiring at the age of 50. He then worked as a consultant with Edwards, Inc. for many years, before his retirement. Kermit moved to Statesboro in 2004 and became a member of Grace Community Church, where he chaired the building committee. He loved helping and mentoring people and especially enjoyed working on his family’s farm, Pine Acres, in Tattnall County, where they grew pecans and pine trees. He was an avid hunter of ducks and deer and enjoyed shooting sporting clays. Kermit was a loving husband, father and grandfather and was very proud of his children and grandchildren.
Kermit was preceded in death by his parents, Kermit Inman Dowdy, Sr. and Sarah Daniel Dowdy and his sister, Jacquelyn Dowdy Douglas.
Kermit is survived by his loving wife, Jo Ann Collins Dowdy of Statesboro; sons, Kermit I. Dowdy, III of Cary, NC and Michael B. Dowdy and his wife, Dawne of Charlotte, NC; daughter, Lisa Dowdy Lippiner and her husband, Joshua of Charlotte, NC; sister, Josephine Dowdy Spivey and her husband, John of Savannah; brother-in-law, Wendell “Doug” Douglas of Madison, MS; grandchildren, Savannah Brooke Dowdy of Cary, NC; Hannah M. Dowdy, Colton I. Dowdy, Emma Lippiner and Ellie Lippiner all of Charlotte, NC; many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 5:00 to 7:00 PM Friday, March 18, 2016 in Hodges-Moore Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, March 19, 2016 in the chapel of Hodges-Moore Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Holt officiating.
Burial will be in Bay Branch Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Claxton.
Pallbearers will be Wes Brown, of Wilson, NC; David Brown, of Rocky Mount, NC; David Carter, of Calhoun, SC; Tommy Douglas, of Jackson, MS; Steve Spivey, of Monks Corner, SC; John Spivey, of New Orleans, LA and Colt Dowdy, of Charlotte, NC.
Honorary pallbearers will be Grace Community Church, Building Committee, Bubba Hunt, Matt Hart, Larry Carter, Jon Cook and Vance Holloway all of Statesboro.
