

Mr. Leeroy “Roy” Melton, age 84, passed away Sunday at the Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Facility. He was born in 1927 in Americus, Georgia and lived in Savannah and then Baker, Florida before moving to Brooklet in 1999. Mr. Melton was a Veteran of World War II and served ten years in the Army and ten years in the Air Force. He retired from UPS as a fleet supervisor after ten years and then was also an automotive instructor. Mr. Melton enjoyed working with his hands, fishing, farming and reading, and had a witty sense of humor.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Melton of Brooklet, his children, Betty (Bill) Clark of Baker, Fl., Jean Phipps of Statesboro, Nancy (Steve) Lankford of Greenwood, SC, Michael (Angela) Melton of Midway, Diane (Terry) Coleman of Savannah, Ga., and Bobby Melton of Townsend, Ga.; his sister, Nellie M. (Alvin) Johnson of Americus, Ga.; his brother, Robert (Linda) Melton of Americus, Ga.; thirteen grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. Mr. Melton was preceded in death by two brothers, J.L. Melton and Carl Melton.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. at Hodges-Moore Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held Thursday at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel of Hodges-Moore Funeral Home with Rev. Kenny Grant officiating.
Burial will be in Eastside Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Bryan Bailey, Greg Coleman, Joseph Melton, Michael Melton, Stephen Lankford, and Cameron Gordon.
