Lehman Eugene "Gene" McElveen

L. Eugene “Gene” McElveen, age 75, passed away Thursday, June 15th in East Georgia Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. McElveen was a native and lifelong resident of Bulloch County and graduated from Southeast Bulloch High School. Gene was stationed in Montana and France, while serving in the United States Air Force, as a Crew Chief, during the Cuban Missile Crisis and retired from Emerson Electric, after 35 years of service, working there as a Quality Engineer. He was a member of Elam-Egypt Baptist Church, where he was a Deacon Emeritus, a former Sunday school teacher and choir member and was a member of the Senior Adult Sunday school class.

Mr. McElveen was preceded in death by his parents, Lehman Emanuel and Louise Sims McElveen and his sister, Betty McElveen Duggar.

Gene is survived by his wife, Ona C. McElveen of Brooklet; daughter, Kim McElveen Smith and her husband, Derrell of Brooklet; sons, Shawn Lehman McElveen and his wife, Tonya of Brooklet; Brian Carver McElveen and his wife, Kay of Springfield and Chris M. McElveen of Brooklet; 10 grandchildren, Michael Berry, Eric McElveen, Shawn Berry, Brandon McElveen, Nikki Berry, Candace Hunnicutt, Alaina McElveen, Joshua McElveen, Kristin McElveen and Caleb McElveen; 2 great-grandchildren, Ian Berry and Irelann McElveen; several nieces and nephews.

A gathering of family and friends will be held 1:00 to 3:00 PM Saturday, June 17th in Elam-Egypt Baptist Church.

The funeral service will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, June 17th in Elam-Egypt Baptist Church with Reverend Paul Moore officiating.

Burial will follow in Foy Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Michael Berry, Shawn Rhyan Berry, Eric McElveen, Brandon McElveen, Joshua McElveen and Kevin Hunnicutt.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Sims, Caleb McElveen and the Deacons of Elam-Egypt Baptist Church.
